Wa shing
The p aintwork of your vehicle is ex posed to
environmental influences, e.g. continuous
cha ng es in wea ther conditions, industrial
waste gases and dust or thawing salts, so
wash and w ax your vehic le regularly. When
using automatic ca r washes, selec t a
prog ra m which includes wax ing .
Bird droppings, dead insects, resin, pollen
and the like should be c leaned off
immed iately, as they contain ag gressive
constituents which can cause paint
damage.
If using a car wash, comply with the
pertinent instructions of the car wa sh
manufac turer. The w indscreen wipers a nd
tailg ate w ip ers must be switched off –
see pages 92, 93. Rem ov e d etachable rod
antenna by unscrewing it.
Do not use high-pressure jet clea ners.
If you wash your vehic le by hand, m ake
sure that the insides of the wings are also
thoroughly rinsed out. Do not use
household dishwashing liquid, to avoid
removing w ax from the paintwork.
Self-help, vehicle care
C lean edges and folds on opened doors
and flaps as well as the a reas they cover.
Thoroughly rinse off a nd leather-off the
vehicle. Rinse leather frequently. Use
sepa ra te leathers for paint and window
surfac es; rem nants of wax on the windows
will im pair vision.
Also wash alum inium trim parts, avoiding
the use of abrasive materials such as
automotive or chrom e p olish, steam or
caustic soa p. Washing with water is
normally suffic ient.
