ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - DISASSEMBLY, INSPECTION AND REASSEMBLY

1.3 Reassembling the starter

Reassembly follows the disassembly procedures
in reverse while observing the following.
Lubrication
(1)
When the starter is overhauled, apply grease to
the following sliding surfaces, gears and
bearings.
Multemp PS2 (KYODO YUSHI
Grease
CO.,LTD) or equivalent
Armature shaft gear, reduction gears
(a)
Bearings
(b)
Pinion shaft washer and stopper ring
(c)
Pinion
(d)
Lever's sliding surfaces
(e)
Ensure that the starter mounting face, the
brushes, the commutator
current-carrying parts are not smeared with
grease.
Installing the stopper ring
(2)
Install a new stopper ring into the ring groove on
the pinion shaft. Using a puller, pull the pinion
stopper until its groove engages with the stopper
ring.
Note: On reassembly, use a new stopper ring.

Apply grease to the contact faces of the
overrunning clutch and the lever
