EXHAUST GAS REGULATION AND VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

EXHAUST GAS

For clean air and environment, the government is strengthening
the exhaust gas regulations. In order to meet to and satisfy these
regulations, the vehicle is equipped with the exhaust gas control
system.
What is Meant by "Harmful Exhaust Gases"?
The harmful exhaust gases are the gases that are emitted
from the exhaust system that are harmful to the human body
such as Hydrocarbon (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitro-
gen Oxide (NO
) and Sulfur Oxide (SO
x
Perform the following procedure in order to prevent
from the harmful exhaust gases.
1. You must inspect and maintain the vehicle according to the
"Exhaust Gas Related Inspection and Maintenance Record
Schedule". You must get an approval from the inspector.
2. Please use the Ssangyong Authorized Workshop that have
skilled mechanics and the right tools so that they can per-
form the required regular inspection and troubleshooting.
3. Please warm up the engine before inspecting the engine
inspection or measuring the exhaust gas.
Normal Engine Operation Temperature: 85°C ~ 95°C
WARNING
Poor grade fuel or inappropriate additives can ruin the engine and the
exhaust system. Use the designated fuel only.

WHAT DOES THE CONTROL SYSTEM DO?

The vehicle was designed to meet all exhaust gas regulations.
In order to maintain the exhaust gas control system optimized,
you must perform regular inspections at the Ssangyong Autho-
rized Workshop according to the Owner's Manual.
Crankcase Blow-by Gas Control System
The crankcase blow-by gas control system is a system that
prevents air pollution by burning the blow-by gas surged from
the crankcase by bringing into the combustion chamber us-
).
ing the positive crankcase ventilation system.

Vaporized Gas Control System
Canister
The canister is a system that stores the evaporative fuel in
the fuel tank during the engine off stage and then sends the
stored fuel to the engine when it starts to run.
Purge Control Solenoid Valve
The computer operated Purge control solenoid valve is located
in between the canister and the surge tank. When coolant tem-
perature is low or when the engine is idling, the valve closes
to stop the evaporated fuel from going into the surge tank. Dur-
ing normal driving or after the warm-up, the valve opens and
allows the evaporated fuel to go into the surge tank.
Exhaust Gas Control System
The exhaust gas control system eliminates the exhaust gases
effectively while helping the vehicle to maintain its optimized
conditions by using the 3-Way Catalytic Converter.
