10BASE-T
This refers to the 10 Mbps, baseband, twisted pair
cable compliant with the IEEE802.3 standard.
100BASE-TX
This is the extended version of 10BASE-T and is
also referred to as Fast Ethernet. The
communications speed is 100 Mbps, a much faster
speed compared to the 10M bps speed of 10Base-T.
Ack Signal
The signal indicating that the machine is ready to
receive data from the host device or that data is
correctly received.
Address
This refers to information (unique identifier)
assigned for identifying nodes (various computers
and terminals) on the network. Also, it can be used
to refer to a specified location in the memory where
data is stored.
AppleTalk
This is the network software for Macintosh. The
communications protocols available are LocalTalk
and EtherTalk.
Application Software
This refers to the tools for running jobs on the
computer. These applications include word-
processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database and so
forth and all kinds of software applications are
available in the market.

Bi-directional Communications
This refers to the sending and receiving of
information between two devices. With bi-directional
communications, print data can be sent to a printer
and the printer can also send information of the
printing status to the computer.
Browser
This is the software for displaying and viewing
www server information on the computer via the
internet. Some representative browsers are Netscape
Communicator, Internet Explorer and so forth.
Busy Signal
The signal indicating that the printer is not able to
receive data from the host device.
CD-ROM
Compact disk designed to store data like software,
image and so forth to be used with a computer.
Click
A click refers to the action of pressing the mouse
button once and releasing your finger. In this
manual, "click" is used when you click the left
mouse button. When you click the mouse button
twice quickly, then release your finger, this action is
referred to as a "double-click".
Client
On a network, the server is used for storing data to
be used by other computers. Computers accessing
this server are called the clients.
