Step 8: How to Configure SNMP

Managing the SCE 2000 is possible also via a Network Management System (NMS) that supports
SNMP. By default, SNMP is disabled on the SCE 2000 .
To enable SNMP management you must configure the following basic SNMP parameters:

Enter the SNMP configuration menu.
Step 1
Would you like to enter the SNMP configuration menu? [no]: y
Type yand press Enter.
The SNMP configuration dialog begins.
Enable SNMP management.
Step 2
Type y and press Enter.
Enable SNMP management? [no]: y
If you choose to disable SNMP management, skip the rest of this section and go to : Configuring the
Topology-Dependent Parameters (on page 5-19). The rest of the dialog is not presented, as it is irrelevant
when SNMP management is disabled.
Type the SNMP GET community name and press Enter.

SNMP traps status and managers.
Community strings (where an SNMP community string is a text string that acts like a password to
permit access to the SNMP agent on the SCE 2000 ).
Enter the SNMP configuration menu.
Enable SNMP management.
Type the SNMP GET community name and press Enter.
Assign an access list to restrict the SNMP management stations that may use this GET community.
The maximum number of GET communities is 20.
Type the SNMP SET community name and press Enter.
Assign an access list to restrict the SNMP management stations that may use this SET community.
The maximum number of SET communities is 20.
Enter the SNMP trap managers menu.
Type the trap manager IP address and press Enter.
Type the trap manager community string and press Enter.
Type the number of the trap manager SNMP version (1 or 2c) and press
Enter
The maximum number of trap managers is 20.
Configure the Authentication Failure trap status.
Configure the SCE enterprise trap status.
Type the name of the system administrator and press Enter.
