Replacing a Director blade

Slots are numbered from 1 through 12, from left to right when facing the port side of the DC Director.
Director blades can be installed in slots 1 through 4 and 9 through 12.
CAUTION:
Wear a grounded ESD strap when handling a Director blade. Use the grounding connections
above the power connectors on the chassis.
1.
Orient the Director blade so that the ports are at the front of the chassis and the flat side of the blade is
on the left. See

(FC8- 1 6, FC8-32, and FC8-48 Director blades): Adjust the ejectors to the open position, align the flat
side of the Director blade inside the upper and lower rail guides in the slot, and slide the blade into the
slot until it is firmly seated. See
(FC10-6 Director blade, FC4- 1 6IP, and FR4- 1 8i Director blades) Open the ejectors to approximately
45 degrees, align the flat side of the Director blade inside the upper and lower rail guides in the slot,
and slide the Director blade into the slot, with slight pressure to the left, until it is firmly seated.
IMPORTANT:
Director. The FC4- 1 6IP will be supported in a future version of Fabric OS.

(FC8- 1 6, FC8-32, and FC8-48 Director blades): Adjust the ejectors to the closed position by pulling
them away from the center of the blade.
(FC10-6 Director blade, FC4- 1 6IP Director blades) Close the ejectors by pushing the handles toward the
center of the Director blade until the ejectors lock. The levering action of the handles seats the Director
blade in the slot.
IMPORTANT:
Director. The FC4- 1 6IP will be supported in a future version of Fabric OS.

(FC8- 1 6, FC8-32, and FC8-48 Director blades): Adjust the ejectors to the closed position by pulling
them away from the center of the Director blade.
(FC10-6 Director blade, FC4- 1 6IP, and FR4- 1 8i Director blades) Tighten the thumb screw inside each
handle using the Phillips screwdriver. See
IMPORTANT:
Director. The FC4- 1 6IP will be supported in a future version of Fabric OS.
5.
(FC10-6 Director blade, FC4- 1 6IP, and FR4- 1 8i Director blades) Turn the Director blade on by sliding
the slider switch in the top ejector up, covering the thumb screw.
6.
Verify that the power LED on the Director blade is displaying a steady green light. If it does not turn on,
ensure that the Director blade is firmly seated.
7.
Install the SFP or XFP (FC10-6 only) transceivers and cables in the Director blade.
8.
Group and route the cables.
9.
Replace the chassis door. See
