Recorded sounds such as speech and sound effects. These
are played back by the audio circuit's Digital-to-Analog
Converter (DAC).
digital sound
A description of a sound wave that consists of binary
numbers.
digitizing
The process of converting an analog signal into a digital
representation.
diskette
A thin flexible platter coated with a magnetic material for
storing information.
diskette drive
A magnetic drive that writes on and retrieves data from
a diskette.
DSTN
Dualscan Super-Twisted Nematic. A type of technology
used in some NEC Versa LCD screen displays.

enhanced VGA
A video interface that offers more colors or higher resolu-
tion than VGA.
extended RAM
The area of RAM above the first megabyte of memory in
the system available for enhancing system performance.
