The STU III/SECTEL 1500 provides nonsecure (clear) voice, secure voice
and secure data communications in one easy-to-use telephone. This manual
shows how to install, use and troubleshoot the SECTEL 1500.

Chapter 1, General Information, contains abrief description of information
found in each chapter, along with asummary of equipment capabilities,
features and technical specifications.
Chapter 2, Controls, Indicators and Connectors, describes the keypad, func¬
tion, multiline and memory dial keys, the message display, external inter¬
faces and the AUTOVON/IVSN precedence function.
Chapter 3, Installation, describes unpacking, location requirements, setup,
programming and data terminal connections to prepare the system for
operation.
Chapter 4, Fill Devices and Cryptographic Ignition Keys (CIKs), describes
the SECTEL 1500 fill devices, keying material and dual keysets feature.
Chapter 5, Security Considerations and Cryptographic Procedures, contains
the terminal fill procedure, checking the fill status, adding, viewing and
erasing CIKs and zeroizing the SECTEL 1500.
Chapter 6, Voice Communication, contains procedures for placing and
receiving calls, and reading and clearing compromised information mes¬
sage (CIM) prompts.
Chapter 7, Data Communication, contains procedures for setting on-hook
and off-hook data communication protocols, sending and receiving data
and converting from data to voice in secure mode.
Chapter 8, Care, Cleaning and Battery Replacement contains procedures for
the care and cleaning of the SECTEL 1500, including the battery
replacement procedure.
