If you classifications allow asecure call but the classification levels do not
match, the terminals default to the highest common classification level.
When the terminal enters the secure mode, it turns on the SECURE annun¬
ciator and displays the classification level on the top line of the display. The
bottom line automatically scrolls through the other terminal's authentica¬
tion and CIM. The user may manually review the other terminals authenti¬
cation, ID and CIM using the Iscroll! key. If the terminal cannot enter
secure mode, the message display shows:

Only one person at atime may talk in half duplex mode. The speaker has aT
(transmit) displayed while the listener has an R(receive) displayed. The indicator
appears on the right side of the top line of the display. When the Tor Ris not dis¬
played. the line is idle and either party may begin speaking.
Talk at anormal level. If necessary, adjust the earpiece volume by
pressing IVOL Aj or IvOL Vj.
Either party can initiate asecure mode change at any time during the
secure communication. Pressing the Ivoice/data |key causes the indi¬
cated change in operating mode. (Data mode will not be entered if a
DTE is not attached to the terminal.) The terminal will momentarily
display the security level on the top line, and RESYNCING on the
bottom line as it switches modes. If the ImodEmI or the IHALF DUPili^
key is pressed, the terminal will display the security level on the top
line and RETRAINING on the bottom line as it switches from 2.4 half
duplex to 4.8 full duplex operation or from 2.4 half duplex to 2.4 full
duplex respectively.
