Renaming
While the names givento the buttons andinputs on
theremoterepresent recognizable categories of
audio/video p roducts, system operation maybe easier
if the displays shown inthe remote's LCDscreen are
customized t o reflect t he specific characteristics ofa
playback s ource'sbrandnameor the newfunction
givento a specific buttonwhenoneremote's controls
areprogrammed i ntotheAVRremote. TheAVR
remote allows youto changethenameof eithera
master d eviceor anybuttonon theremoteusingthe
following steps.
Renaminga Device
Torename a specific device/input source button, f oF
lowthesesteps. F orthisexample, wewill showyou
howto rename the Device/input Selector n ormally
shown as "TV" to "HDTV TUNER."
1. Pressandholdthe ProgramButton _
for
aboutthreeseconds whilethemessage shown
in Figure 24 appears inthe remote's LCD
Information Display_.
Release t he button
whenthe redlightunderthe Set Button
appears.
2. Theremote's M_IM MEMU message (Figure 25),
willappear i nthe LCDdisplay andthe Set Button
willremainilluminated i n red.Press the
A/T NavigationButton _
untilREtIRME
appears on thebottomlineof the LCDscreen,
asshowninFigure 74.

the buttonis pressed during the renaming
process. Thefirst pressofthe buttonwill enterthe
firstleffershown, s ubsequent presses of thesame
button willchangethedisplay to theotherletters
above thatnumbered key.Forexample, since the
firstlefterweneedto rename theinputto HDTV
Tuner i s an"H",youwouldlocatethe "H"above
the "4" bufton, a ndpressthe button twice. T he
firstpressshows a "G," t he second presschanges
it to an "HI'Consult thetableat theendof this
sectionto seewhichcharacters p ressing a partic
ularbuttongenerates.
7. Afteryouenterthe firstletterof thenewdevice
name, therearethreeoptions forentering the next
character:
a.Toentera lelterthatrequires a different
numeric keyto bepressed, s imply pressthat
button. T hecursor w illautomatically moveto
the nextposition andthe firstletter accessed
bythenewbuttonwillappear: Following o ur
example, the nextletter needed is a "D," so
youwouldpressthe "3" buttononce.
b.Toentera letter thatusesthesamenumeric
key, y ou mustfiratpressthe • Navigation
Button @ to movethe blinking cursorblock
to the nextposition. T henpressthe Numeric

asrequired to enterthe desired letter.
c.Toenbra blankspace, p ress the• Navigation
Button @ twice. T hefimtpresswill movethe
cursorto the right,andthe second presswill
movethe cursoronemorespaceto the right,
leaving a blankspacebetween thelastletter
andthe nextone.
8. Repeat S tep7 asneeded b enterallthe needed
letters, n umbers, chafacbrs andspaces.

Oncea deviceis renamed youwill seethe newname
on the top lineof the remote's LCDdisplay whenever
the Input//DeviceSelector_
is pressed, or when
anyothercommanWfunction buttonon theremoteis
pressed afterthe mainDevice Selector i s pressed.
Notethatrenaming a deviceinthe remote willnot
change the nameof the inputusedbythe on screen
menusystem of theA\/R635.

Thanks b the programming f lexibility o f the AVR
remote, an individual buttonon the remote maybe
assigned a teature or funcSon t hatis different Q omthe
name thatappears a s thefactorydefault w henthe
buttonis pressed. However, withthe Rename Key
function it is possible to rename almost a nybuttonon
the remote so thatwhenthe buttonispressed youwill
seea moredescriptive o r appropriate n amedisplayed.
