SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

thecenterchannel o utput. T hereceiver w illoperate in
a "phantom" centerchannel modeandcenterchannel
information w illbe sentto theleftandrightfrontchan
neloutputs. Whenonlyfrontleftandrightspeakers a re
used. w ithnocenteror surround speakers. Dolby
Virtual S peaker i s a goodalternative m ode.

woofer c onnected, you willnot hearanylowfrequency
sounds fromthe surround channels.
WhenL ARGE isselected, a full-range signal
willbe sentto the surround channel o utputs, and
NOsurround channel signals willbe sentto the
subwoofer output.
WhenN 0 NE is selected, s urround soundinforma
tionwillbe splitbelween the fl-ont l eftandfrontright
outputs. F oroptimal p eflormance w henno surround
speakers a re inuse.the DobyVirtual S peaker m ode
shouldbe used.

selected bythe AVR 635's multiroom control s ystem.

themisno subwootar connected, youwill not hear
anylowfrequency sounds fromthesurround back
channels.
WhenL A RGE isselected, t he system willadjustso
thatthe fullcomplement of 6.1/7.1 surround process
ing/decoding m odesareavailable, anda fullrange
signal w ill besentto the surround backchannels, with
no lowfrequency information sentto the subwoofer
output.
Whenyouhavecompleted y ourselechon f orthe
backsurround channels, pressthe • Navigation

on theremote to move thecursor t o
SUB MODE.
Pressthe_/_ NavigationButton _
on the
remote to selecttheoptionthatbestdescribes y our
system.
Thechoices available f orthe subwoofer position will
depend on thesettings forthe otherspeakers, particu
laMy thefrontleft/right p ositions.
Ifthe frontleft/right s peakers a resetb SMAL L,
the subwoofer willautomatically besetto S UB,
whichisthe "on"position.
Ifthe frontleft/right s peakem aresetb L A RGE,
threeoptions areavailable:
- If no subwoofer is connected t o theAVR635.

on the
remote sothatN 0 NE appears inthe on-screen
menu. W hen thisopSon is selected, all bassintor
mation willbe routed to thefrontleft/right " main"
speakers.
- Ifa subwoofer is connected t o the A\/R635, you
havethe option b havethefl-ont l eft/right " main"
speakers r eproduce bass frequencies a t alltimes,
andhavethe subwoofer operate onlywhenthe
AVR635 is beingusedwitha digital s ource that
contains a dedicated lowfrequency effects, o r LFE
soundtrack. Thisallowsyouto usebothyourmain
andsubwoofer speakers t o takeadvantage o f the
special b ass sounds creatad for somemovies.

- Ifa subwoofer is connected a ndyouwishto useit

front left!right s peakers, regardless o f thetypeof

the remotesothatSU B L / R+ L F E appears
intheon-screen menu. W henthisoptionisselect
ed.a fullrangesignal w ill be sentto the Sent
left/right " main" speakers, andthe subwooter will
receive LFEinformation a ndthe bassfrequencies
undertheselected crossover point.
Aftermaking any required changes t o the Subwoofer
Modeline,pressthe _,/'v NavigationButton
to movethe cursorto the S UB SI Z E line. T he
settingon thislineenters the dataof thesizeof your
subwoofer's d riversothatthe propergain,filtersand
equalization settings willbe usedwithEzSeVEQ.
Tochange the setting, m akecertain thatthecursoris
on the SUB S I Z E lineandpresstheA/'v
NavigationButton ql]_. so thatthesettingappears
thatmatches t he diameter o f yoursubwooter's d river.
Ifyoudo not remember w hatthe sizeis, youcan
eithermeasure the driver's diameter o r consult t he
owner'smanual for thespeakeT.
Whenyouhavecompleted t he settings forspeaker
"size", p ressthe A/'v NavigationButton _
to
movethe cursorto the B AC K T 0 MA NU AL
S E1"UP lineto continue youradjustments. Itis also
important to remember t o re runthe EzSeVEQ s ystem
if anychanges h avebeenmade to thesettings on this
menu. f ollowing theinshuctions s hown on page24 for
using the Manual m ode.
SpeakerCrossoverSetting
Whenall speaker " size"settings havebeenmade.
you nowhavethe optionto takeadvantage o f the
AVR635's Quadruple C rossover system, w hichallows
individual crossover settings to be madeforeach
speaker g rouping. TheIow4requency crossover point
issetby thedesignof yourspeakers. Depending o n
the design andddvercomplement ofyourspeakers, it
isdefined asthe frequency whichis either t he lowest
possible frequency t he speaker i s capable of repro
ducing, o r the flequency a t whichsound is sentto the
