SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
Each of theoptionlineson thismenu(Figure 4)
selects the surround modecategory, andwithineach
of thosecategories t herewill bea choiceof the
specific modeoptions.
Thechoice of modes willvaryaccording t othe speaker
configuration in yoursystem. Whenthe SU RR
BACK lineofthe SPEAKER
SETUP menu
(Figure 6) is setto N0 NE the AVR635will be con-
figuredfor 5.1 channel o peraSon, andonlythe modes
appropriate t o afivespeaker s ystem willappear. When
the SURR BACK lineof the SPEAKER
SE T U P menu(Figure 6) is setto SII AL L or
L A RGE, theAVR635 will be configured f or
6.1/Y.1 channel operation, andadditional modes
suchasDolbyDigital E XandDTSESwill appea_, as
theyareonlyavailable whensevenmainspeakers a re
present. I naddition, s omeof themodesavailable in
the AVR635 willnot appear u nless a digital s ourceis
selected andis playing the correct b itstream.

ProLogicIIx modes areonlyavailable whenthe
system is setfor6.1/7.1 operation byconfiguring
the Surround Backspeakers t o "Small" or "Large", as
described o n page28. or viaEzSWEQ. Whena disc
is playing witha DolbyDigital s oundtrack t hatcontains
a special "flag"signal i nthe datastream, t he Dolby
Digital E Xmodewillbe selected automatically. Itmay
alsobe selected usingthismenu or lhmughthefront-
panel o r remote controls, asshown on page33. A

settings areavailable to tailorthe sound fieldto your
listening roomenvironment andyourindividual taste
andpreferences. (WhenotherDolbySurround m odes
areselected, d ottedlineswill indicate thattheseset
tingsarenot active.)
• Center W idth: T hisse_ngadjusts thebalance of the
vocalintormallon i nthe fiont soundstage belvveen
thecenterandfront left!right s peakers. The lower
settings spread the centerchannel soundmore
broadly intothe lettandrightchannels. A higher
number(upto "Y")produces atightercenter
channel p resentatioin.
• Dimension: Thissettingaltersthe perceived d epth
of the surround fieldby creating a shallower presen-
tationthatappears to movesounds toward the front
of the room, o r a deeper p resentation thatappears
to movethecenterof the sound fieldtowardthe
backofthe room.Thesettingof "0" is a neutral
default, w iththe rangeof adjustment shownas
"R 3" fora deeper, reaporiented s ound to "F 3"
fora shallower, frontoriented sound.

theperception ofsoundalongthesides of the room.

TheNightmodeis a feature of DolbyDigital t hatuses
special p rocessing t o preserve thedynamic rangeand
fullintelligibility of a moviesoundtrack w hilereducing
the peaklevel. T hisprevents abruptly loudtransitions
fromdisturbing others, withoutreducing the sonic
impact o f adigitalsource. TheNightmodeis only
available whenspecially e ncoded DelbyDigital s ignals
areplayed.

0 F F: When0 F F is highlighted, the Nightmode

MI D: WhenMI D is highlighted, a mildcompres

MAX: WhenMAX is highlighted, a moresevere
compression a lgorithm will beapplied.
We recommend t hatyouselectthe MI D settingas
a sta_l:ing pointandchange to the MA X settinglatet_
if desired.
TheNightmodemayalsobe adjusted directly any
timea DolbyDigital s ource is playing bypressing
the Night Mode Button _.
