possible whilethe system is in use.Extraneous noise
of anykindmayadversely a ffecttheaccuracy of the

drculating, andif possible, turnoffanyventilation s ys
ternsif the noiseformtheairflowis loudenough for
youto hear. S hould an outside noisesuchasa phone
ringing occurduringthetestprocess, werecommend
thatyourerunEzSet/EQ. Thisscreenisalsoyour
reminder thatthetesttonesusedby EzSeVEQ a re
somewhat loud.Anyone withsensitive h earing should

Step 5. Atthispointyou willbeginto heara seriesof
testtonescirculate amongall thespeakers inyour
system. W hile thisis happening, the AVR635 is read
ingthe signal t o determine whichspeakerpositions
areactive, whattypeof speakerispresent a teach
activeposition, whatthedistance is fromthe listening
position to eachspeaker, andto beginto builda pro
fileof the impact o f the room's acoustics o n thequality
of audioreproduction. Whenthe testis completed y ou
will hearthetonesstop,andthe system will pause fors
longasa minute whilethe processor m akesitscalcu
lations. D onot be alarmed if the "WARNING" message
remains onthe screen aftertonesstopuntila results
message is displayed a sshowninStep6 or 7, below.
NOTE: W hilethesetestsdetect w hether a speaker i s
connected t o a particular output, t heycannotdeter
minewhether t hespeaker i s inthe correct p osition.
(Forexample, it cantellwhether a speaker i s connected
to the Surround Right o utput, b ut it cannot t ellwhether
the speaker i s on the rightor leftsideof yourlistening
room.)Forthatreason, westrongly recommend t hat
youtry to listen asthe tonecirculates, matching the
nameshown for eachchannel t o the location of the
speaker. Ifa toneis heardfroma speaker p osition that
doesnot match the on screenmessage, makea note
of the incorrect s peaker c onnections. Whenthe test
process stopsyouwillseea message indicating t he
theyFarFieldmeasurements am complete, b utsince
thereisa connection e rrorpressthe •

Step 6. Whenthe FarFieldtestsarecomplete a mes
sagescreen winappear t o confirmif the procedure
wassuccesdul o r not.In mostcases therewill not be
anyproblems andyouwill seethe message shownin
Figure 10 on yourscreen.Ifthespeaker p osillons
shownmatch the actual s peaker l ayoutinyoursys
tam,pressthe Set Button _
to complete EzSeVEQ
bypetiorming the NearFieldMeasurements. Continue
the EzSet/EQ process bypressing the Set Button
to takethe NearFieldmeasurements fromthe
frontleft,centerandrightspeakers. Bytakingthis
separate setof measurements, theA\/R635 is ableto
complete its viewof the room'ssonic signature and
applyequalization as needed to correct s pikes and
dipsinthe system's response, Continue t heseinstruc
tionswithStep8.
