MAIN REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS
IMPORTANT N OTE: T heAVR635's remotemay
be programmed to control u p b eightdevices,
including theAVR635. Beforeusing the remote,
it is important to remember t o pressthe Input
SelectorButton O
thatcorresponds t o theunit
youwishto operate. I naddition, theAVR635's
remote is shipped fromthefactory to operate the
AVR635 andmostHarman Kardon CDor DVD
players andcassette decks. T heemoteis also
capable of operating a widevarieb/ofotherproducts
usingthecontrol c odesthatam partof theemote.
Beforeusingthe remote withotherproducts, follow
theinstructions o n pages 43
46 to program the
propercodestorthe products inyoursystem.
Itisalsoimportant to remember thatmanyof the
buttons o n theremota takeon different funcfions,
depending o nthe product s elected u sing the Input
SelectorsO.

theAVR635 or a selected deviceinthe Standby

functions, but if the Multiroom system is activated,

theinputto theAVR635. Finally, it willchangethe
remote conl_ol sothatit controls thedevice selected, i n

theAVRwhenno buttonis pressed for 6 seconds.
Thisallows the remote to automafically return to con
trolof important functions suchasvolume, m uteand
surround modeselection afteryouhaveusedthe
remote to contrslanother d evice,if youwishto
change the length of timethatthe rsmoteoperates
another d evice, o r to havethe remote remain active
forcontrol o fthe otherdevice(such asa DVD player
or set top box)untilyoumanually return contrsl t o the
AVRbypreseing t heAVRSelector_,

ClearButton:Whenprogramming theremote

NumericKeys:Thesebuttons serveasa 10
buttonnumeric keypad to entertunerpresetpositions.
Theyarealsousedto selectchannel numbers when
_{, Cable or SAThasbeenselected on the remote, or
to select t racknumbers on a CD,DVD or LDplayer,
depending on howthe remote hasbeenprsgrammed.

stations w ithacceptable s ignal q ualily will betuned,
andthe tunerwill playFMstationsinstereo, w hen
available. Inthe AUTOmode, w hentheTuning
Up/DownButtons LmJ_]p_ arepressed, the unit
willautomatically search forthe nextavailable station
withgoodsignal s trength. Whenthisbuttonis preseed
sothat I1A NU AL / 11 0 N0 appears in theUpper
DisplayLine []
andintheon screen display, each
pressof the TuningUp/DownButtons I_J_]p_
will movethefrequency up or downinsinglestep
increments. WhentheFMbandis in use,pressing the
buttonsothatthe MANUAL modeis acfivated w ill
enable youto tunestations withweaksignals by
changing to monaural reception. (Seepage37 for
moreintormafion o n tuneroperation.)
Dim Button:Pressthisbuftonto activate the
Dimmer f unction, w hichreduces the brightness of the
front-panel display, or turnsit offenfirely. P ress the
button onceto changethedisplay to reducethe
brightness by 50%,andpressit againwithin5 sac
ondsandthemaindisplay willgo completely d ark.
Notethatthissettingis temporary; regardlese o f any
changes, the display willalways returnto fullbright-
ness whentheAVRislurnedon,Theblueillumination
around the Standby/OnSwitch [] willalways
remain at fullbrightness r egardless o f thesettingto
remind youthattheAVRissfillturned on.Theblue
accent l ightinginside the volume control w illalso
remain at fullbrightness w henthe panel i s at 50%,
butgo out whenthe panel l ights arefullydimmed.
ChannelSelectButton:Thisbutton isused to
start t heprocese ofsetting theAVR 635'soutput l evels t o
an external source. Once thisbufton is preseed, press the

to select t he
channel beingadjusted thenpress theSet Button
