theAN Syncadjustfeature to delay the audiosignal

madeusingthedirectaccess controls on theremote,
asshownbelow. Thatenables youto seethe image

Toadjust theA!VSync delay, press theA/T Navigation

to delay the sound
sufficiently sothatit matches t he on screen video.
Thedelaysettings maybe adjusted atanytimeusing
theremotecontrol a ndwhileviewing an on screen
image by pressing the DelaySelectButton _.
TheAN SyncDelaysettingisfirst,andit maybe
adjusted by pressing t he Set Button _
withinfive
seconds ofwhenthe A/V SYNC DELAY
message appears inthe on-screen display andthe

NotethattheA/V Syncdelaysettingisunique to each
videoinputsource, so youmayentera different s et

Tochange oneof theindividual speaker p ositions

followed bythe A/T NavigationButton @ to
select t he desired posiSon a sthatname appears in the

When the nameof the speaker p osiSon t o be adjusted
appears pressthe Set Button _
within5 seconds.
Press the _/1_ NavigationButton @ to enterthe
desired delaysetting forthatspeaker a ndthenpress
the Set Button _
to enterthe setting. TheA/T
NavigationButton _
maybe usedto select
another p osition, o r youmaysimply wait5 seconds
forthe system to timeout and_etum to normal
operation.
Whenallchanges to theDelaysettings havebeen

Output LevelAdjustment
Output l evel a djustment isa keypartof theconfigura
tionof anysurround soundproduct. I tis particularly
important fora digitalreceiver s uchastheAVB635,
ascorrect o utputs ensurethatyouhearsoundtracks
withthe properdirectionality andintensity.
In mostcases, y ouwill notneedto makeany
adjustments to the outputlevel, a sthesettings
madebyrunning EzSeVEQ a reasaccurate asthose
mademanuaMy. However, youareableto usethe

to suityourpersonal pTeferences or to configure the
system so thattheoutputsettings aredifferent t rom
oneinputsource to anotheT. Theabilityto makeindi

forthe subwoofer or an individual channel g roupsuch
asthetrentspeakers w henplaying musical selections
viathe CDinputasopposed to themoviesoundtracks
morefrequently usedwiththe DVD input. T hismenu
alsoallowsyouto adjust t he outputlevelsusing
external s ources suchasa testdiscor otherprogram
material thatyouuseasa standard, rather t hanthe
system's testtone.
IMPORTANT N OTE: L isteners a re oftenconfused
aboutthe operation of thesun-ound c hannels. While
someassume thatsoundshouldalwaysbecoming
tromeachspeaker, m ostof the timetherewill be little
or nosoundin thesurroundchannels. Thisis because
theyareonlyusedwhena moviedirector or sound
mixerspecifically p laces soundthereto createambi
ence, a specialeffector to continue actionfromthe
trontof the roomto the rear. W henthe outputlevels
areproperly set, it is normal f orsurroundspeakers
to operateonlyoccasionally. Artificially increasing the
volume to the rearspeakers maydestroythe illusion
of an enveloping sound fieldthatduplicates the way
youhear s ound ina movie theater o r concert hall. e ven
whenmaking m anual adjustments.
Before beginning t heoutputlevel a djuslment process,
makecertain thatallspeaker c onnecllons h ave been
properly m ade. T hesystem volume should besetto the
level t hatyouwilluseduring a typical listening session.
Werecommend t hatEzSeVEQ b e usedwhen theAVR
isfimtinstalled t o establish t heinitial l evel s ettings.
Tomakeanychanges to thechannel outputsettings,
go to the CHANNEL
ADJUST
submenu
withinthe MA NU AL SE T U P Menu(Figure 16).

be programmed to automatically circulata a mongthe

youalways runthetesttoneoncetheautomatic mode
to verifythatthe speakers h avebeenproperly con

Button @ untilA UT 0 is inhighlighted v ideo. T his
will cause the testtoneto circulate amongall of the
channels forfiveseconds ateachposition.
Asthe testtonecirculates, the cursorwillflashand
movenextto eachposition to indicate where the tone
shouldbe coming from.Ifthetoneis coming froma
different s peaker t hanthe oneindicated onthe menu
screen turnthe AVR 635 off using the MainPower
Switch [] andcheckthe speaker w iringor connec-
tionsto external p oweramplifiers t o makecertain that
eachspeaker i s connected t o the correct o utputtar
minal. W hen you haveverified thatall speakers a re
connected to the correct o utput t erminal, t urnthe
AVB635 backon andreturn to thismenu to resume
