Insomecases whenyouwishto seta specific input
forthe videoconversion c ircuits, a change to tee set-
tinghereis required. I ntheAutomatic mode, t heAVR
willscanall videoinputsandroutethefirstsignal i t
encounters t o thecomponent output.However, in
advanced s ystems, or whenmorethanonevideoinput
is connected t o the samesoume, y oumaywantto
bypass theautomatic s election andmanually choose
whichsignal i s converted.
Forexample, in somecasesbothcomponent and
standard composite videooutputs froma settop box
maybeconnected to theAVRsothatthecomponent
signal i s fedto a digital v ideodisplay andthecompos
itesignal t o a recolder. I nthiscaseyouwouldnot
wantthecomposite signal c onverted, but ratherhave
thecomponent signal p assed through to tee mainout
putwiththe composite.
Tomakethistype of system configuration firstmake

Audio Setup

Thismenu alsoincludes a settingto turntheunit's
upsampling f eature on or off.In normal u se,this
feature isturnedoff,whichmeans thatdigital s ources
areprocessed a t theirnativesample rate.For
example, a 48kHzdigitalsoume willbe processed
at 48kHz.However, the AVR635 allows youto
upsample t he incoming 48kHzsignals to 96kHz
foraddedresolution.

Surround Setup
Thenextstepis to setthe surround modeyouwish
to usewiththe inputthatwaspreviously selected in
the I N / 0 U T S E T U P menu.Since s urround
modes area matter of personal taste, r eelfreeto
selectanymodeyouwish youmaychangeit lateL
However, to makeit easier to establish the inillal
parameters fortheAVR635, wesuggest L ogic7
(Cinema o r Music) f or mostanalog inputs. I nthe case
of inputs suchasa CDPlaye_, TapeDeckor Tuner, you
maywishto setthemodeto Stereo("Surround o ff")
astheyarenot typically u sedwithmultichannel pro
grammaterial, andit isunlikely thatsurround encoded
material will beused. A lternatively theLogic7 Music
modeisa goodchoice forstereo-only sourcematerial
Seepage34 for moreintormation o n available s ur
roundmodes.
Fordigitalprogram material, the AVR will always exam-
inethe datastream andautomatically selecta Dolby
Digital or DTSmodeasapplicable.
Itis easiest to complete the surround setupusingthe
fullOSDon screen menus. F rom the MA ST ER
MENU (Figure 1),pressthe ,A,/• Navigation
