10.4.4 Recovery from Failure in Both Drives

After you replace both drives, set up the equipment again (see "10.2.2 Newly setting up
RAID1") and recover the data from the backup file.
Alternatively, recover the equipment using a backup drive. (See "10.5.2 Recovery Using a
Backup Drive ".)

10.4.5 Recovery Method When a Normal Drive Is Accidentally Taken Offline

In this equipment, a drive that has been taken offline (hereinafter referred to as an offline drive)
is recorded by the RAID1. Such an offline drive cannot be reused.
However, if (and only if) a normal drive is accidentally taken offline or taken offline by the
RAS software for evaluation purposes of the equipment, you can perform the following
recovery method to enable use of the offline drive again as an initialized drive.
• If you perform the offline drive recovery method for a drive that has been
taken offline by means other than RAS software, it might not be recoverable.
Even if it is recovered, it might not operate normally.
• Do not use the offline drive recovery method for any purpose other than for
equipment evaluation. If you perform the offline drive recovery method on
equipment in practical use such as a running system, a problem such as data
loss might occur.
• A drive that has been automatically taken offline by the equipment might
have failed. Therefore, do not perform the offline drive recovery method on
such a drive.
• Do not use a drive for which the offline drive recovery method was executed
while it was in use on another system. Failure to heed this instruction might
result in a problem such as data loss.
1. Shut down the OS, unplug the power cord of the equipment from the outlet, wait for at
least one minute, and then remove the normal drive. Note down the removed drive bay
number so that you do not forget it.
2. On drive bay 1 of the device, mount only an offline drive.
3. Initialize the drive by using the software RAID utility. For details on how to do so, see
"10.6.2 Starting and Stopping the Software RAID Utility" and "10.6.7 Drive
Initialization Function".
4. After about one minute, mount the offline drive and the normal drive removed in step 1 in
the original drive bays (check the recorded drive bay number and mount it in the
appropriate position).
The offline drive can now be used as an initialized drive.
