5.10.7 Reduced Rate Charge Feature Configuration

The charger can be configured to allow a window of time per day to reduce the charge rate to the
connected battery. This is useful if there is a period of time when the batteries left on the charger
can charge at a slower rate to prevent heating issues or to reduce utility costs. If it is known that
during certain periods the battery will not need to charge at maximum rate then the power
delivered can be backed off by a programmable amount.
When this feature is enabled and the start and stop times are encountered, the maximum charge
rate of the battery is limited to the charge rate programmed in this feature. For example, if a
battery is connected to the charger at 11:00am, the battery capacity is 1000 amp hours, and its
start rate is 32amps/100 amp-hours, the battery will normally start charging at 320amps. If the
reduced rate feature is set to be enabled from 10:00am to 12:00pm, and the limit is 25amps/100
amp-hours, then as soon as the clock reaches 10:00 am, the current will drop from 320 to
250amps. The charging will continue with this rate limit until the window is closed at 12:00pm
when the current limit returns to 320 amps.
