Brake booster
The brake booster utilizes engine manifold
vacuum to assist braking force.
WARNING
If the engine is stopped while driving,
braking will require more force than
usual and stopping distance will in­
crease.

General precautions for braking
WARNING
• Do not depress the brake pedal sud­
denly when a tire is punctured. This
could cause loss of control of the
vehicle.
• Make sure that the floor mat does
not interfere with the free move­
ment of the pedal.
• Braking effectiveness will be re­
duced with moisture or salt. Lightly
depress the brake pedal several
times to remove moisture or salt.
• Do not rest your foot on the brake
pedal while driving.
This could cause brake overheat­
ing. Do not keep depressing the
brake pedal when descending a
steep grade. Downshift to get en­
gine braking.

Parking tips

WARNING
• When parking or stopping your ve­
hicle, make sure that there Is no
flammable objects such as dry grass
and oil around and underneath your
vehicle. The exhaust pipe may reach
an extremely high temperature, and
it is possible that nearby combusti­
ble objects may be ignited.
• When you park the vehicle, engage
the parking brake fully except when
the mechanism could be frozen.
Place the manual transmission le­
ver In 1st on the uphill grade or
reverse on the downhill grade, or
the automatic transmission lever in
