Before starting engine
1. Perform the pre-starting check.
See Section 12.
2. Check the safety around the vehicle
before entering it.
3. Make sure that the parking brake is ap
plied.
4. Adjust seat position, seatback angle,
and headrest height.
5. Adjust the inside mirror and outside mir
rors.
6. Fasten seat belts.
7. Turn off unnecessary lights and acces
sories.
8. Check fuel gauge if fuel is enough to
drive.

Starting engine
CAUTION
• Do not crank the starter continuously
for more than 1 O seconds.
• Do not race a cold engine to prevent
engine damage.
• Keep moderate speed until the engine
warms up thoroughly.
Starting procedure
The electronic fuel injection system auto
matically controls the proper air-fuel mix
ture for starting.
1. Depress the clutch pedal fully and hold
it in that position until the engine starts
(manual transmission).
2. Shift the transmission lever to neutral
(manual· transmission) or to ® range
(automatic transmission).
3. Turn the ignition key to "ON". Ensure the
w_ a rning lights glow.
4. With your foot off the accelerator pedal,
turn

ignition key to "START" and
release.
5. Check that warning lights except park
ing brake warning light or brake warning
light go off.
6. Do not race a cold engine.
If the weather is below freezing, warm up
the engine for a few minutes before
driving.

vehicle, special care should be exercised to
