Chapter 5 Software Maintenance

5.1 Overview

5.1.1 Files Managed by the LS8M1WCMA0-OVS

I. BootWare program file
The file is used to boot applications when the LS8M1WCMA0-OVS card is started up. A
complete BootWare program file includes two segments: basic and extended.
II. Application file
WX5002 LS8M1WCMA0-OVS service cards support the Dual Image function. By
default, the system defines three application files for booting: main, backup, and secure.
If you have loaded the three application files into the Flash, the system will use these
three files to boot in order. For more information about the application files, refer to
section 5.7 "Maintaining Application and Configuration Files in BootWare" on page
5-22.
The following gives the default names and types of the application files and their
priorities for booting.
Main application file. The default name is main.bin, and the file type is M. It is the
default application file used for booting.
Backup application file. The default name is backup.bin, and the file type is B.
When the boot using the main application file fails, the system boots using the
backup application file.
Secure application file. The default name is secure.bin, and the file type is S.
When boot using the backup application file fails, the system boots using the
secure application file. If the boot using the secure application file fails, the system
prompts a boot failure.
