Chapter 2 Installation Preparation
2.1 Safety Precautions
To avoid device impairment and bodily injury caused by improper use, observe the
following safety recommendations before installing the LS8M1WCMA0-OVS. The
recommendations do not cover every possible hazardous condition.
2.1.1 General Instructions
When installing an LS8M1WCMA0-OVS card into a switch, make sure that:
The switch chassis is clean and dust-free.
Keep the switch chassis and installation tools away from walk areas.
Do not wear loose clothing, jewelries (including rings and necklaces) or any other
ornaments that may get hooked by the chassis.
2.1.2 Electrical safety
Check carefully whether there are possible dangers on your work site. For
example, the power supply is not grounded, or is not well grounded, or the floors
are wet, and so on.
Before installing, check the location of the emergency power switch in the
installation room. When emergency occurs, shut down the power first.
Do not install or uninstall the card to or from a powered-on switch yourself.
When power-off is required, never assume that the power is off. Always check.
2.1.3 Anti-Static Safety
To prevent the static electricity from damaging the card electrical components, take
anti-static measures on the installation site and note the following when installing the
card:
Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap.
Hold the edge of the card and do not tough the components or the printed circuit of
the card.
Follow these steps to use an ESD-preventive wrist strap:
Step 1: Put your hand into the ESD-preventive wrist strap.
Step 2: Strain and tighten the strap, and make sure the ESD-preventive wrist strap
makes good skin contact.
