Connection Module X
Do not look directly at the optical connector output beams during connector removal. The beams

can cause permanent eye damage.
Open the passive optical shelf covers of the ONS 15252 MCUs that are to be connected.
Step 1
Remove the TM from the passive optical shelf to make lateral space:

Disconnect the connector from the adapter.
a.
Put dust caps on the MU-MU duplex connector.
b.
Put dust plugs in MU-MU duplex adapter.
c.
Press the button on bottom of the TM and press upwards and towards you to remove the TM.

Place a CMX half in the passive optical shelf at the end of the row of HFM modules where the TM was

removed. Make sure the slot on the back of the module interlocks with the crossbeam located in the
passive optical shelf.
Push the front panel button to snap the CMX into place.
Step 4
Remove the dust plugs from the MU-MU duplex adapter in the CMX.
Step 5
Remove the dust caps located on the optical fiber MU-MU duplex connector.
Step 6
Clean, inspect, and insert the MU duplex connector from the adjacent HFM in the CMX half.
Step 7
Guide the optical fiber cable from the CMX through the lateral grooves on the sides (top front) of the

CMX and out through similar grooves on a DFM adjacent to the LM.
Note
Guide the fiber from the CMX through the lateral opening in the hinged cover.
Step 9
Repeat Steps
Step 10
Close the cover, making sure no fiber is pinched in the process.
