Removing and Replacing a TM
Open the passive optical shelf cover.
Step 1
Disconnect the TM optical connections.
Step 2
Put dust plugs in the MU optical adapters on the TM.
Step 3
Install protective caps on the optical fiber jumper cables disconnected from the TM.
Step 4
Push the button located at the bottom front of the TM.
Step 5
Raise the TM enough to pull it forward and out of the passive optical shelf.
Step 6
Carefully remove the TM from the passive optical shelf.
Step 7
Note
Close the passive optical shelf cover.
Step 8

Procedure: Replace the Termination Module in the Passive Optical Shelf

Replace a TM only when a new TM is required, or when you need a TM to replace an earlier BM,

CMX or CMY module.
Follow proper safety procedures when removing modules without switching off the relevant

subrack.
Do not look directly at the optical connector output beams during connector removal. The beams

can cause permanent eye damage.
Open the passive optical shelf cover.
Step 1
If needed, make room at the end of the Hub Filter module (HFM) row by removing a Dummy Filter
Step 2
module (DFM).
Note
Carefully position the TM into the passive optical shelf.
Step 3
Push the TM retainer located at the bottom front of the TM.
Step 4
Snap the TM into place by pressing gently downwards.
Step 5
Remove the dust caps from MU adapters located on the TM front panel.
Step 6
Remove the dust plugs from the MU duplex connector located on the fiber optical jumper cable coming

from the adjacent HFM.

Be careful with the two fibers from the last Hub Filter module. Those fibers must be
terminated, either by installing a new TM or inserting a BM, a CMX, or a CMY module.
To lock the TM effectively, you must slide the TM on the bottom of the passive optical shelf.
Failure to do so may cause the TM to pop up. If popped up, the TM will not align properly
with the rest of the modules.
