Adjusting the Print Head

You need to adjust the print head if white lines appear in
your print outs or if you notice the print quality has
declined. You can perform the following printer
maintenance functions for maintaining the print head
in good condition to ensure the best print quality.
Carry out appropriate maintenance depending on the
print results and situation.

Checking for clogged nozzles

There are two methods to check for clogged nozzles; one
performs a check on command while the other performs
regular checks at a specified time interval. U

❏ Nozzle Check
Perform a Nozzle Check when it is needed to check
for any clogs in the print head's nozzles.
There are two checking methods, as shown below.
❏ Auto Nozzle Check
Uses the Auto Nozzle Check function to
check for any clogs in the print head's
nozzles and display the results as a message.
If a clog is detected, the clogged nozzle(s) are
displayed and Auto Cleaning is performed.
Tip:
❏ The Auto Nozzle Check function is not 100 %
guaranteed to detect clogging.
❏ A small amount of ink is consumed when
checking for clogs.
❏ Ink is consumed when cleaning is performed
by Auto Cleaning.
❏ Print Check Pattern
Prints a nozzle check pattern. When
checking the printed pattern, if you see
banding or any gaps in the print out you
should perform head cleaning.

❏ Auto Nozzle Check Settings
Performs an Auto Nozzle Check at regular intervals
or with every job. Auto Cleaning is performed if any
clogging is detected.
Cleaning the print head
If you see banding or gaps in the print outs, perform
head cleaning. The following two functions are
provided for cleaning the nozzles of the print head.

❏ Auto Cleaning
Performs an Auto Nozzle Check and, if any
clogging is detected, head cleaning is performed on
the row of nozzles where the clogging has been
detected.
Whether or not head cleaning is performed again is
determined by the Auto Cleaning Times setting
from the Maintenance Mode menu. The factory
setting for Auto Cleaning Times is once.
❏ Manual Cleaning
Select the nozzles you want to clean, and whether
you want to perform normal cleaning or power
cleaning. Power cleaning is a more powerful head
cleaning process which should be used for any
nozzles that fail to unclog even after performing
multiple normal cleanings.
Adjusting the print head position (Print head
alignment)
If the print results appear grainy or out of focus, perform
Print Head Alignment. The Print Head Alignment
function corrects print misalignments.

Although nozzle check can be performed from the
computer or the printer, the cleaning procedures differ
as explained below.
