MASTER CYLINDER

WARNING
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.
There are no internally serviceable components in the
master cylinder. If the master cylinder is faulty, it must
be replaced.
The master cylinder is located under the tray on the dash
and can be accessed by removing the tray.

Add Fluid

1: Thoroughly clean the area around the master
cylinder cap and remove the cap.
2: Add brake fluid from a new sealed container to
the master cylinder until it as the maximum level
line molded in the reservoir.

Push Rod Adjustment

The master cylinder push rod should be adjusted so that
there is 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) clearance between the push
rod and the plunger when the brake pedal is released.
1: Loosen the jam nut and rotate the push rod until
it just touches the master cylinder plunger. The
push rod will become difficult to rotate when
touching.
2: Now rotate to loosen 2 turns and tighten the
jam nut. DO NOT let the push rod rotate while
tightening the jam nut.
