Overview of CompoNet Communications

1-2-1

Functions

CompoNet network is a component-level network system between a PLC and on-site I/O devices,
which features the ease of operation and installation.
The PLC and CompoNet Slave Units cyclically exchange I/O information through a CompoNet Master
Unit, and refresh I/O in synchronization with the PLC scan.
In addition, the Message communications function enables the host PC or Master Unit (CPU Unit) to
read/write data from/to CompoNet Slave Units.
CompoNet communications are broadly divided into the following two types.

Features

Programless Communications
Simply connecting communication cables enables cyclic data exchange (Remote I/O communications)
between the Master Unit and multiple Slave Units.
There are four types of communications cables available: Round Cable I (2-core), Round Cable II
(4-core), Flat Cable I (without sheath), and Flat Cable II (with sheath).
High-speed Multi-point Processing
Remote I/O communications for up to 2,560 I/O points can be achieved at approximately 1,000 points
per millisecond (at 4 Mbps
a system previously configured with Basic I/O Units.
*1 There are restrictions on the use of branching to branch lines and Flat Cable II.
For details, refer to Section 1-2-2 Branch Line Support for Cable Types and Baud Rates and Notes on the
availability of Multidrop connections of the CS/CJ-series CompoNet Master Units Operation Manual (W456).
Easy Startup
Remote I/O communications can be started merely by connecting the Master Unit and Slave Units via
communications cables, setting the switches on the Master Unit and configuring the node address for
each Slave Unit, and turning ON the power.
CompoNet Communications Unit User's Manual (I582-E1)
Enable automatic data exchange between a PLC (Master Unit/CPU Unit) and
Slave Units in a cyclic manner.
Enable low-priority communications where messages are sent from a PLC to
Slave Units. It enables you to read/write parameters, read the operation status,
or perform other operations.
