CHAPTER 7 TROUBLESHOOTING

The output is too dark.

Image density
1) Is the image density setting correct?
NO:
General condition
2) Execute 'PRINT test'. Is the output image normal? (See 3.19.5
"PRINT TEST" in Chapter 2.)
YES: Go through steps 8) to 12).
NO:
High-voltage contact (between cartridge and high-voltage spring)
3) Is the high-voltage spring used to supply high voltage to the car-
tridge soiled? (Remove the cartridge to check.)
YES: Clean it.
High-voltage contact (between high-voltage spring and DC controller PCB; J205, J207)
4) Is the connection between the high-voltage spring and the DC con-
troller PCB (J205, J207) normal?
YES: Correct it. If it cannot be corrected, replace the faulty part.
Connector
5) Is the connection of the following connectors normal: J201 and
J204 on the DC controller PCB; J303, J304, J312, J316 on the im-
age processor PCB; J3122 and J801 in the laser scanner unit?
NO:
Cartridge
6) Try replacing the cartridge. Is the problem corrected?
YES: End.
Laser scanner unit, DC controller PCB
7) Try replacing the laser scanner unit. Is the problem corrected?
YES: End.
NO:
Rod lens array (contact sensor)
8) Clean the rod lens array of the contact sensor. Is the problem cor-
rected? (See 4.2 of Chapter 6.)
YES: End.
Black offset
9) Execute black offset adjustment. Is the problem corrected? (See 1.2
of this chapter.)
YES: End.

Correct the image density setting.
Go through steps 3) to 7).
Connect them firmly. If the flexible cable has a scratch, replace it.
Replace the DC controller PCB.
