2 Safety tips
Before interrupting or establishing any electrical connections (eg when removing the Electric
Greifer from the Prosthesis) it is absolutely necessary to remove the battery from the battery
receptacle and thus to separate the system from the power supply.
If the battery becomes fully discharged for any reason, you can release the Greifer using the safety
release lever (fig. 1, item 4). The Greifer can be opened by forcefully prying the fingers apart.
If the System Electric Greifer will not be used for an extended period of time, it should be left in
the open position to protect the mechanics
Do not allow foreign particles or liquids to get into the Greifer mechanism. The System Electric
Greifer should not be subjected to intense smoke, dust, mechanical vibrations, shocks or high
temperatures
Due to strong electromagnetic radiation the System Electric Greifer might open or close un-
expectedly when near high-tension power lines, transmitters, or transformers, or when going
through safety gates. Setting the electrode gains as low as possible will minimize this risk of
inadvertent operation
If the distance to HF communication devices (eg mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, WiFi
devices) is too small, interference with internal data communications can result in unexpected
prosthesis behaviour Therefore, keeping the following minimum distances to these HF communi-
cation devices is recommended:
• Mobile phone GSM 850/GSM 900: 0.99 m
• Mobile phone GSM 1800/GSM 1900/UMTS: 0.7 m
• DECT cordless phones incl. base station: 0.35 m
• WiFi (routers, access points,...): 0.22 m
• Bluetooth devices (third-party products not approved by Ottobock): 0.22 m
The product and any damaged components may only be opened and/or repaired by certified
Ottobock Myo-Service technicians.
When operating the product in the immediate vicinity of active, implantable systems (e.g. pace-
makers, defibrillators, etc.), ensure that the minimum distances stipulated by the manufacturer
of the implant are observed. Interference with active, implantable systems may occur due to the
electromagnetic radiation emitted by the product. Furthermore, make sure to observe any opera-
ting conditions and safety instructions stipulated by the manufacturer of the implant.
