DRIVE CHAIN

For the longest chain life, all sprockets must be properly aligned, chain properly tensioned and adequately
lubricated.
The drive chain is tensioned by 2 springs acting
together. Proper tension is achieved when the
top of both washers are flush with the top of the
spacers
When proper tension is achieved, ensure the nuts
on the tension bolts are locked together.
Tensioner inspection and adjustment can be
done by removing the center access shield with
the two 1/2" bolts as shown. Be careful not to
damage gaskets or rubber washers when
working on the shields. Replace if necessary.
NOTE: When installing the center access shield
use Loctite® 242 or 243 and torque bolts to 50 ft-
lbs.
Clean out any dirt accumulated in the chain
case and inspect seals. If any damage, or leaks
are found repair or replace as needed.
If chain case contamination has occurred, clean
chain case and replace oil with 0.7 liters (1.5
pints) of 80W90 gear oil.
