Internal Mass Storage
SCSI Bus
Table 5–1 lists recommended SCSI mass storage device bus addresses. Mass storage device upgrades
have these addresses factory set.

SCSI circuits must have terminating resistors installed on them. The two configurations are
terminated as follows:
When using the external SCSI configuration, you must use an active SCSI terminator at the last
external device on the SCSI bus.
All other devices, external or internal, must not be terminated.
Use only HP K2291 terminators to ensure reliable system operation.
Consult the documentation that accompanies each SCSI device for specific information
concerning its use. Refer to Appendix C of the J Class Owner's Guide for information about connecting
SCSI devices to the workstation.
Hewlett–Packard only supports SCSI devices that were designed for the J Class workstation.
Third–party SCSI drives are not supported, but if they meet SCSI–II specifications, they should work
on the J Class workstation. These third–party devices may not perform as well as supported drives,
due to special firmware (such as write caching) in the J200 SCSI drives that optimizes I/O
performance.
Internal storage devices supported are:
Fast, Wide SCSI Hard Disk Drives – up to two:
1.0 GB Drive
2.0 GB Drive
Single–Ended SCSI Removable Media – up to two
CD–ROM Drive
4.0 GB, 4–mm DDS Tape Drive
SCSI Floppy Drive
Refer to Chapter 1 for the list of magnetic media devices supported.
See Chapter 9 for information on the fast, wide differential drive connector pinnouts.
