Compressed-air system external filling
Location of parking brake lever control unit
A157 Parking brake lever control unit
The electronic parking brake lever is located on the right
in the instrument panel.
The electronic parking brake is activated by pressing the
"P" button or pulling the parking brake lever beyond the
locking point. A red indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster indicates that the parking brake has been
engaged. The electronic parking brake is released by
pressing the "P" button with depressed brake pedal.
Via the "TSA" button on the parking brake lever, the
Trailer Stability Assist can be activated in vehicles with
code B5D (Trailer Stability Assist (TSA)).
For greater comfort and safety, an automatic release or
engagement takes place in certain situations:

Workshop mode
The system can be switched into a special workshop
mode. All automatic systems are deactivated in this
mode. The automatic systems cannot be activated in this
mode. The workshop mode is used during maintenance
or repair work.
The workshop mode is activated when the "P" button on
the parking brake lever control unit is pressed and the

Fill compressed air system from a remote source
When you fill the compressed air system via test
connection 12 on the EAPU (Electronic Air-Processing
Unit), the compressed air is dried and restricted by the
pressure limiting valve.
The EAPU contains the following components:

• The electronic parking brake is automatically
released during pulling away.
• The electronic parking brake is automatically
engaged if the engine or ignition is switched off.
• The electronic parking brake is engaged
automatically when the driver's door is opened.
The electronic parking brake also facilitates manual
braking, e.g. as an auxiliary brake in the case of the
partial failure of the service brake system. The manual
braking is realized by pulling/releasing the parking brake
lever; the braking effect is, in this connection,
proportional to the position of the parking brake lever.
ignition is switched off at the same time. The workshop
mode is now activated and the next time the ignition is
switched on, it is shown as a message in the instrument
cluster control unit or in the instrument cluster control
unit screen.
The workshop mode is deactivated either through
XENTRY Diagnosis or automatically when the vehicle is
driven at a speed of more than 30 km/h.
