Important notes
i
Watch out for loud hissing noises that are caused by
natural gas escaping under high pressure.
Fire fighting should usually only be started when the
natural gas supply has been stopped in order to
prevent the development of an explosive gas-air
mixture.
In terms of its properties, natural gas is usually less
critical than gasoline, it has, for example, only a very
restricted ignition range (approx. 4 up to 16.5 % by
volume), an ignition temperature that is three times
higher (approx. 640 °C) and it is lighter than air (density
ratio of natural gas/air approx. 0.6).
Natural gas is usually colorless and odorless. To be able
to localize possibly escaping natural gas, it is provided
with a fragrance that ensures the typical gas odor.

Shut off natural gas system

The following must be observed in the case of escaping
natural gas:
Avoid ignition sources.
Switch off engine.
Measure gas concentration.
Allow natural gas to escape and ensure ideally
transverse ventilation ("blow away" natural gas).
Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof devices.
Take into account the blow-out directions of the gas
cylinders in vehicles that are located on the side or on
the roof, as controlled darting flames can occur when the
thermal fuse is triggered. Conventional firefighting
methods should not be used until all the natural gas has
escaped. If necessary, use ventilation to help the natural
gas to escape.
assigned to fire class C "Flammable gases". All C class
extinguishing agents such as ABC powder extinguisher
are possible as extinguishing agents.
