General notes
Note
When you interrupt the power supply with the battery
disconnect switch, the engine is switched off
automatically. Some safety-relevant functions will be
limited or no longer available because of this, e.g.
power steering, lighting system and ABS. The
compressed air system is not filled any more. You
will require considerably more effort to steer. The
wheels may lock up when braking. If there is a loss
of compressed air, the spring-loaded parking brake
can activate and the vehicle may perform
uncontrolled braking actions. You could lose control
of the vehicle. There is a risk of accident!
Do not operate the battery disconnect switch until
the vehicle is stationary.
The battery disconnect switches are used to interrupt the
power supply. This prevents short circuits with arcing

• Swing cover (1) upward.
• Pull out shift pin (2) or swivel shift pin (3) upward.
All consumers are disconnected from the battery, with
the exception of the tachograph.

which could trigger a fire or explosion. Vehicles used to
transport hazardous goods are equipped with 2 battery
disconnect switches depending on their ADR
classification. Once you have safely parked the vehicle,
you can use the battery disconnect switch, e.g. when
loading a vehicle in a hazardous goods zone. Only use
the battery disconnect switch with the vehicle stationary.
Observe notes on event message in on-board computer.
Switch the electronic ignition lock to position 0 and
remove the key from the key slot. On vehicles with
retarder, wait approximately 5 seconds after switching
off the ignition before you interrupt the power supply with
the battery disconnect switch. If the auxiliary heater was
switched on, wait until the power-down of the auxiliary
heater has finished.
In a hazardous situation, you can interrupt the power
supply immediately with the battery disconnect switches.
If you interrupt the power supply with the battery
disconnect switch while the anti-theft alarm system is
active, the anti-theft alarm system triggers an alarm.
Restoring the power supply
• Press in shift pin (2) or swivel shift pin (3) downward.
• Press cover (1) downward and engage.
