i) Starting the Engine

Before starting the model, you need to cut ventilation openings in the body (e.g. side windows and rear window) so that sufficient cooling air can
flow around the cylinder head while driving. For this, use a lexan scissors
If your do not observe this, the engine will overheat due to lack of cooling!
General information on combustion engines
At commissioning of the new engine, a certain run-in time must be complied with. During this time, engine parts are tuned to one another, whereby
maximal capacity is reached and premature wear is prevented.
Running in therefore needs to be performed very carefully!
Preparations
• The carburettor is already roughly pre-adjusted.
• Before commissioning the engine, blow compressed air into the cylinder head glow plug opening without the glow plug inserted. This way you make sure that
the combustion chamber is free of dirt which may have gotten into the engine through the glow plug seat.
• Insert a glow plug with the thermal value medium to cold (depending on the fuel).
• Oil the air filter slightly in order to filter out dust particles
Never drive without an air filter!
• Open the tank lid and fill in the fuel.
Start engine
The wheels must be suspended freely in the air! Put the model, e.g. on a suitable car stand.
• Pull the cable starter several times (slowly!) to suck fuel into the carburettor.
• Do this until there are no more visible air bubbles in the fuel hose and the fuel just about reaches the carburettor.
Do not pull out the cable starter all the way but only to a maximum of 3/4 of its total length! Determine the rope length by slow extension without
glowing! Never pull out the cable pull starter with force!
• Place the plug starter on the glow plug with the battery fully charged. Ensure a tight fit!
• Now pull the cable pull starter through until the engine starts up. Hold the model with your other hand.
However, never reach into the drive because this could start up due to engaging of the sliding clutch. Risk of injury!
• Once the engine is running, let go of the cable starter and remove the glow plug starter.
Only connect the glow-plug starter to the engine briefly. Otherwise, the glow plug may burn through early.
• If the pull starter can only be actuated with a lot of force after several unsuccessful start attempts, too much fuel got into the combustion chamber and the
crankcase. The engine was "flooded".
Refrain from further start attempts and remove the excess fuel in order to prevent damaging the cable pull starter and the engine!
Proceed as follows to remove the fuel:
• Carefully turn in the main nozzle needle clockwise as far as it will go.
• Unscrew the glow plug and check its glow function
• Place a piece of cloth on the engine and pull the cable pull starter 56 times (3/4 of the length!). The fuel is pumped out and evaporates.
• Insert the glow plug again.
• Unscrew the main nozzle needle by 3 rotations anti-clockwise.
• Repeat the start-up process.
If the engine does not start after 10 attempts at the most, proceed as described above or try to locate the error in the troubleshooting table (at the end of the
operating instructions)!
