SC-ADT Configuration

Telnet/SSH Management Overview

For remote management, the SC-ADT supports Telnet communication to the command line
interface. The SC-ADT also supports Telnet communication to each enabled terminal server port
for access the attached craft device. Port access can be made via the SC-ADT Telnet menu or via a
direct Telnet "cut-thru". All Telnet methods are described below.
For heightened security, remote users can conduct an encrypted Telnet session to the SC-ADT and
the attached devices via an encrypted SSH (Secure Shell protocol) connection. SSH must be
enabled at the SC-ADT and SSH client software must be installed at the remote workstation to
establish a secure channel for encrypted connections to the SC-ADT and its attached devices. The
SSH connection procedures are similar to the Telnet procedures.

Basic Telnet/SSH Setup

For Telnet service, the SC-ADT is configured for Telnet access by default. If Telnet access has been
disabled, it will be necessary to use the SC-ADT craft port interface to enable the service.
For SSH Service, in order to establish an encrypted SSH channel between remote user and the ADT,
ensure that the remote workstation is equipped with customer-supplied SSH client software (such
as PuTTY).
Note
To give Telnet/SSH users direct cut-thru access to a port device while preventing access to the SC-ADT itself,
disable port authentication as described in
1. If necessary, enable the Telnet service at the craft iterface by typing:
services telnet enable
2. For SSH, enable the SSH service by typing
services ssh enable
3. At the DOS prompt, type:
telnet
4. Log into the SC-ADT with a valid username and password. If necessary, override any other
Telnet CLI session in progress as instructed by the screen prompt.
5. At the SC-ADT prompt, enable supervisor privileges by typing:
enable [supervisor-level password]
6. Disable port authentication to allow direct cut-through access to a port (remote users will not need a
SC-ADT username/password). Without username/password authentication, users will be able to
access the port device but not the SC-ADT command line interface.
configure ports authen disable port
7. Enable remote management on one or more ports by setting the port Admin State to ON as follows:
configure ports enable port
8. The SC-ADT is now configured to permit the following Telnet or SSH functions, described
later in this section:
