Introduction & Specifications

Contact Sense Applications

The SpectraComm ADT rear panel DB-25 interface can make up to eight connections for
environmental inputs and can be configured for alarm notification whenever a change occurs in the
state of dry contacts at external devices at customer sites. In addition, any unused SC-ADT front
panel port can also be configured for contact inputs, supporting Sense Mode and Range Mode (Hi/
Low) contact sensing. When the SC-ADT detects a contact change from the normal state, it declares
an "active" alarm and a "clear" trap is sent when the contact returns to the normal state. The alarm
notification is user-configured as follows: after sensing a change from the normal state (open or
closed), an alarm trap is sent to a management station using an SNMP alarm trap.
The rear panel DB25 connector of the SC-ADT can also support up to two control outputs to
external devices at the local site. These contacts are internal relays that allow the user to create an
open or closed circuit that applies a specific operational state at the external device.
Figure 1-5
shows the SC-ADT performing a contact sensing application that tracks temperature and
entry sensors at a remote location, with SNMP Traps sent to a Management Station. A contact
transport message (future option) is shown being sent to another SC-ADT site.
Note
An SC-ADT is not needed to receive traps. Any Management Station in the network can be a trap destination.

Future Options
(Future option) With Contact State Transport, after sensing a relay state change, a message is
sent to a remote SC-ADT device to open or close a relay at that site.
(Future option) With Trap and Transport, the Alarm is transported between sites, and a Trap
is sent to a management station. (Destinations for alarm transport and Trap are independent.)
(Future option) In any contact transport application, SC-ADT devices are required at both sites
to transport contacts, whereas only a single unit is required to provide the alarm trap.
