tions supplied with your PC Card.
Caring for PC Cards
PC Cards are durable; however, you must treat
them with care. The documentation supplied
with your PC Card will provide specific infor-
mation;however, you should pay attention to
the following points:
To keep out dust and dirt,store PC Cards
in their protective sleeves when they are not
installed in your notebook.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
or excessive heat.
Keep the cards dry.
Do not flex or bend the cards, and do not
place heavy objects on top of them.

Do not force cards into the slot.
Avoid dropping cards, or subjecting them
to excessive vibration.
Installing PC Cards in Your Notebook
PC cards are install ed in the PC Ca rd slot in the
l eft side panel of your noteboo k . (See Fi g u re 1-8
on pa ge 6.)
Some PC Ca rds wi ll not work wh en all po s s i bl e
opti ons are en a bl ed . If a PC Ca rd is not recog-
n i zed and you think that sys tem overl oad may
be the probl em you wi ll need to use the Con tro l
Pa n el , Sys tem and then Devi ce Ma n a ger and
ch oose an opti on to disable so that the re s o u rce s
can be used by the PC Ca rd . See your opera ti n g
s ys tem doc u m en t a ti on for ad d i ti onal hel p.
C A U T I O N
Do not insert a PC Card into a slot if there
is water or any other substance on the
card. If you do, you may permanently
damage the card, your notebook, or both.
To install a PC Card:
1. See your PC Card manual for instructions on
installation of that specific card.
2. Make sure that there is not already a PC Card
in the slot. If there is, eject it,as described in
Removing PC Cards on page 99.
C A U T I O N
Some PC Cards can only be installed
or removed with the power in Suspend
mode, some only with power Off. Please
check the PC Card documentation for safe
installation and removal guidance. When
in doubt always turn the power off.
C A U T I O N
Installing or removing a PC Card while
your notebook is in the process of going
through the power on or power off
sequence may damage the card and/or
your notebook.
