SECTION FOUR

USER INSTALLABLE FEATURES

Your LifeBook
500 Series has a number of user
installable features:
A Multi-function bay in the right front of
your notebook allows you to install the
CD-ROM drive, the floppy disk drive, an
optional second hard drive, or an optional
second Lithium ion battery.
PC Card slots in the left side panel o f your
notebook allow you to install PC Cards,
IC memory cards (SRAM card) or Zoomed
Video cards (Slot 0).
A bay in the left side o f your notebook allows
you to easily install and remove the main
Lithium ion battery.
A parallel port in the back of your notebook
allows you to connect a printer, a photo or
text scanner, etc.

A PS/2 port on the right side of your note-
book allows you to connect an external
mouse, keyboard or numeric keypad.
A microphone jack on the right side of your
notebook allows you to connect a mono
microphone.
A stereo line in jack on the right side of your
notebook allows you to connect a sound
source such as cassette recorder.
A headphone jack on the right side of your
notebook allows you to connect headphones
or powered speakers.
An RJ-11 jack in the back of your notebook
allows you to connect a telephone line to the
internal modem.
A USB connector in the back of your note-
book allows you to connect a Universal Serial
Bus Device.
An external monitor port in the back of
your notebook allows you to connect an
external monitor.
A MediaConnect port on the left side
panel of your notebook allows you to
install the MediaConnect which is a port
expansion module for your notebook.
The MediaConnect lets you perform Infrared
data transfers and connect additional types
of devices to your notebook besides those
accessible from the ports and jacks on it.
The additional device types include S-Video,
NTSC/PAL video equipment, serial devices,
MIDI or game devices and external installa-
tion of the modular floppy disk drive.
A compartment in the bottom of your
notebook allows you to install a memory
upgrade module.
A port on the back of your notebook allows
the connection of a Mini-Docking Station.
This section describes how to install and remove
equipment for each of the expansion features.
