Adjust the diopter.
(1) Swing the 40x objective in the optical path and
rotate the focus knobs to focus on the specimen.
(2) Change the objective to the 10x (or 4x) objective
and focus on the specimen by rotating the
diopter ring without using the focus knob.
Perform this procedure while looking into the right
eyepiece with your right eye and the left eyepiece
with your left eye.

Perform focusing and centering of the condenser.
Adjust the condenser so that illumination is correctly
introduced to the specimen.
(1) Turn the field diaphragm dial to narrow down the
field diaphragm until the field diaphragm image
can be seen in the field of view.
(2) Turn the condenser vertical movement knob to
focus on the field diaphragm image.
Focus on the field diaphragm image so that it's
outline is clearly seen.
(3) Turn the condenser centering knob to perform
centering of the condenser.
Move the condenser so that the field diaphragm
image is in the center of the field of view.
(4) Turn the field diaphragm dial to resize the field
diaphragm image so that it is circumscribed with
the field of view.

Focus on the field diaphragm image, move it to the center of the
field of view, and resize the image so that it fits the field of view.
