The SNMP Link and Chameleon

5.1 This chapter

The SNMP Link is an optional addition to the basic PCNC software. You
do not need to have the SNMP Link, and you can skip this chapter if you
are not using it. This chapter describes how it works and what it does. It
also contains information on how to set up the TCP/IP support software.

5.2 Overview

This feature allows PCNC to translate alarms into standard SNMP
Trap-PDU format. Using separate software (Chameleon ), these traps
can be sent via TCP/IP to a separate NMS or another PCNC installation.
The SNMP Link can also receive traps from Cabletron devices over a
TCP/IP network. These traps are converted into alarms in the same way
as normal alert strings arriving on the Control or Remote Link.
Once installed, the software operates in the background, and requires no
user input.
