13.3.2.10 <Alert message> field
This is a text field which contains the remainder of the alert string
message which followed the word 'ALERT' in the original alert message
when it was received by PCNC.
13.3.3 Device alarm codes
Table 2
lists the meanings of the alarm codes generated by PCNC.
NB: Alarm 6 may not necessarily occur even if the device type is set up
incorrectly in the Network Database. Since the alerts are generic, it is
possible that the same alert is produced by more than one device type.
Values for the parameters in brackets {} are given in
1-31
The following codes represent alarms generated by PCNC,
and usually indicate that an alert message could not be
processed in the normal way.
1
SNMP - PCNC has been shut down.
2
SNMP - PCNC is entering local mode.
3
SNMP - PCNC is entering remote mode.
4
Unknown Device. PCNC could not find the device in the
Network Database
5
Unrecognised Alert. PCNC could not find a Driver for the
device. (This code is no longer used by PCNC)
6
Unrecognised Alert. PCNC could not interpret a message
that was passed to it.
7
The alarm could not be translated to SNMP format
because the Driver did not support this feature.
8
PCNC was unable to translate an Alarm Database entry,
because the database was created using a version earlier
than 0.24.
9
Alarm code 9 is reserved to identify traps coming in from a
Cabletron device over a LAN. These traps contain ALERT
strings that PCNC can understand (see also Section 13.2).
PCNC does not generate alarms with this number.
10-31
Reserved for future use.
