Problem
Cannot send or receive
using Error Correction
Mode (ECM)
Errors occur frequently
while sending or receiving
Cannot receive a
fax automatically

Cause
The other party's fax may
not support ECM.
The phone line may be in
poor condition, or you may
have a poor connection.
The sending fax machine may
not be functioning properly.
The MultiPASS may not be
set to receive automatically.
The MultiPASS may have a
document stored in memory.
The MultiPASS Desktop
Manager may have
received the fax.
An error may have occured
during reception.
The multi-purpose tray may
be empty.
The telephone line may not
be connected properly.
The MultiPASS is printing
a document.
Solution
Some fax units do not
support ECM transmission.
If the other party's fax does
not support ECM trans-
mission, then the document is
sent in the normal mode
without error checking.
Lower the transmission speed.
See the Advanced: Send Fax
dialog box (page 8-5) and the
Advanced: Receive Fax dialog
box (page 8-8).
The sending fax machine
usually determines the fax's
quality. Call the sender and
have them make sure the top
cover and scanning glass on
their fax machine are clean.
To receive faxes automatically,
the Receive mode must be
Fax Only, FaxTel, or Ans.
Machine mode.
Print out any document
stored in memory. (See
page 5-5.)
Check the In Box in the
Desktop Manager.
Check the LCD for an error
message. (See page 10-11.)
Make sure paper is loaded
in the multi-purpose tray.
Make sure all phone line
connections are secure.
The incoming fax is stored
in memory and will print
when the print job is
complete.
