9 Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis

9.1 Troubleshooting Chart

Symptom: Problem with the PC recognizing the Ultium System
Possible Reason
USB cable is disconnected or loose
USB Driver is not installed
Symptom: Problems with Ultium Motion Sensors communicating with the Ultium Receiver
Possible Reason
Sensors were not assigned to Receiver
RF traffic is blocking data transmission
1+ sensor(s) are not turned on
Symptom: Problems with individual Ultium Motion Sensors
Possible Reason
Sensor was not assigned to Receiver
Sensor battery is low (or sensor does not flash)
Sensor shifts with very dynamic movements
Symptom: Problems with intermittent Ultium Motion Sensor signals
Possible Reason
Sensor is too far from Receiver
Sensor radio signal is partially blocked (absorbed) by
subject's body (esp. at long distances)
The skeleton avatar motion lags the subject's
movements

Remedial Action
Check USB cable connection at both Receiver and
computer
Check the Device Manager for USB driver errors and
update the driver if needed
Remedial Action
Assign sensors (see Section 5)
Change the RF channel in hardware setup
Make sure sensor is charged and on
Remedial Action
Assign sensor (see Section 5)
Retry after charging sensor for at least 15 minutes
Secure sensor with overlying elastic wrap
Remedial Action
Move to within 40m of Receiver
Reposition sensor on subject to obtain a direct line-
of-sight relationship between sensor and Receiver
A single sensor is blocked or faulty, check for sensor
problems (possible sensor problems listed above)
There is heavy wireless traffic and the RF channel
should be changed.
