7 Operation
The operation of the COMBISTOP brake is performed by the control device provided by
the customer. The COMBISTOP brake can be manually controlled with the optional Hand
Release Lever.
7.1 Before You Begin
Prior to the initial start-up of the system, go through the following checklist to ensure the
brake will function properly.
Ensure the ordered voltage and performance data match the brake label data.

Check to see if the brake is damaged or if there are foreign particles

contaminating the area of operation or the brake air gap.
Clean friction surfaces with an industrial brake cleaner such as Acetone.

Ensure the air gap is properly adjusted and that the brake releases when

switched ON.
Perform the Running In Process.

Running-In Process
CAUTION
To reach the nominal braking torque after installation or maintenance you must perform a
burnishing or "running-in" process.
1.
Without the motor connected to the load, run the motor up to 1750 RPM.
2.
Engage the brake, stopping the motor fully.
3.
Repeat steps 1-2 five times.
Alternate running in process.
1.
Rotate the brake while engaged at 30 RPM for 1 min.
2.
Disengage and then re-engage the brake.
3.
Perform steps 1-2 five times.

Loss of Braking Torque!
If the brake is damaged or contaminated, or if the switching function
can no longer be guaranteed, do not put the brake into operation!
Limited Braking Torque!
The nominal braking torque is not reached until a burnishing or
"running-in" period is completed.
