ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM

SWITCHES
Electronic Stability Program (ESP
The Electronic Stability Program system
(ESP
) has 4 driver selectable modes which
®
are controlled using the switches located
within the switch cluster.
Note: ESP 'Off' and RACE modes can only
be selected whilst the engine is running,
but can be activated either whilst the vehi-
cle is being driven or is stationary.
Note: In all cases, Anti-Lock Braking
(ABS) and Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA)
will be retained.
WARNING
Lotus recommends that ESP should
always be active when driving on public
roads in normal conditions.

ESP Mode Settings

TOUR (Default setting normal road use)
1. ESP fully activated, see page 62.
2. Engine protection valve within the ex-
haust system will only open at high throt-
tle/rpm applications, see page 67.
3. Maximum continuous engine speed
restricted to 6,600rpm.
4. For automatic transmission vehicles

'Manual Gear Selection' Mode can be
selected, see page 71.
SPORT (Only for suitable road conditions)
1. Reduction in ESP settings allowing in-
creased power induced wheel slippage
thresholds and no throttle reduction on
understeer.
2. Engine protection valve within the
exhaust system is permanently open
regardless of throttle position or engine
speed, see page 67.
3. Maximum continuous engine speed
increased to 7,000rpm.
4. For automatic transmission vehicles
gear shift points are optimised for im-
proved vehicle performance and faster
gear shifts and if activated, the vehicle
will remain in Manual Sequential Gear
Mode until the D – Drive button is de-
pressed, see page 71.
RACE (For dry condition track use only - also
see page 10)
1. Optimised traction and corner exit
characteristics with reduced ESP in-
tervention.
2. Engine protection valve opening timing
the same as SPORT mode.
3. Maximum continuous engine speed
increased to 7,000rpm.
ESP 'Off' (For track use only - also see
page 10)

1. ESP de-activated, see page 62.
2. Engine protection valve opening timing
the same as SPORT mode.
3. Maximum continuous engine speed
increased to 7,000rpm.
4. For automatic transmission vehicles
gear shifting points and manual sequen-
tial gear mode functions are the same as
SPORT mode.
WARNING
Be aware that selecting SPORT, RACE
or ESP 'Off' mode will alter the handling
characteristics of the car. Drivers
should exercise caution until familiarity
has been gained in a controlled safe
environment.
