CONDITION
Liftgate continues to cinch
closed during power mode
Liftgate continues to open
during power mode
(runaway motor)
Liftgate opens very slowly

STANDARD PROCEDURE
STANDARD PROCEDURE - LIFTGATE
ADJUSTMENT
In order for the power liftgate system to function
properly the liftgate must move freely and smoothly.
The power liftgate system can acommodate for some
minor changes in the effort required to move the lift-
gate. However, in extreme conditions the liftgate may
need to be mechanicaly adjusted for proper fit and
finish. Refer to the Liftgate Adjustment procedure in
the Body section of the service manual for detailed
instructions.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
Failure of latch assembly
Failure of Power Liftgate or Body
Control Module
Wiring problems (system or vehicle)
Failure of Power Liftgate or Body
Control Module
Failure of full open switch
Failure of motor assembly
Wiring problems (system or vehicle)
Failure of liftgate motor assembly
Failure of liftgate prop rods
Binding or sticking of components
Grade of vehicle too steep for power
operation
Foreign material in door
compartment
Loose components
Check wire connections and for blown fuse
Check for foreign matter preventing the
operation of latch assembly
Troubleshoot using Body Diagnostic
Manual Replace components, if necessary
Disconnect then reconnect battery to reset
module, function liftgate, if no function
exists check for loose wire connections,
see Body Diagnostic Manual for detailed
procedures
Troubleshoot using electrical schematics.
Refer to wiring diagrams
Disconnect then reconnect battery to reset
module, function liftgate, if no function
exists check for loose wire connections,

Check wire connections
Replace switch, if necessary
Check for continuous drive condition
Troubleshoot using electrical schematics.
Refer to Wiring Diagrams
Check wire connections
Replace motor assembly, if necessary
Replace prop rods, if necessary
Establish location of binding and replace
necessary components
Operate liftgate manually
Remove foreign material
Check and tighten loose components
If a problem exists with the power liftgate and it is
suspected to be extreme effort check the liftgate prop
rods and hinges for free movement. Use a known
good vehicle for liftgate effort comparison.
NOTE: Routine application of Mopar MP-50
equivalent on the chrome prop rod shafts and lift-
gate latch and hinges will help keep the liftgate in
good working order.
