14. Appendix E: Fixed Focal Length Lens

In addition to the 10X zoom lens described in Section 8, the BioTester system can also use fixed
focal length lenses. Other BioTester models may have a 75mm focal length lens and a set of lens
spacers. Other focal lengths are available and are compatible with the BioTester system.

Install Camera Lens

Remove the protective caps on the lens and camera body and then screw the lens into the
appropriate series of spacer tubes. The correct camera setup can be fine-tuned at a later step.
The spacer tube is then screwed into the camera body. Spacer tubes are placed between the
lens and the camera body to change the image scale. One 40mm spacer (largest one) is a good
starting point for setting up the camera. The spacers also affect the working distance of the lens
and therefore the camera housing may need to be moved up or down on the camera mast to
accommodate changes in the number of spacer tubes.
