4.4 Combined Topologies
Bus, star and ring topologies can be mixed.
Some examples of mixed topologies are shown below.
Mode settings: A=Ring (active), L=Line, I=Inactive, P = Ring (passive)

In Figure 5, the connection of an optical single-fiber ring to an optical bus structure is implemented
via a SIMATIC NET optical link module operated as an 'Active Node' in the single-fiber ring.
Within the bus structure, you can connect both active and passive nodes as required.
Within the optical single-fiber ring, only passive nodes can be connected.
