6.2 Starting Up
Select the network topology to suit your situation.
You then install and start up the optical link modules following the steps outlined below:
Check and, if necessary, make the appropriate settings on the DIL switch:
- Set the OLM12M optical link module to the required transmission rate
(default setting: 12 Mbps).
- Adapt the OLM12M optical link module to the required topology by setting the mode
(default setting: Line).
- Activate a terminating resistor combination on channel 1 if the connecting cable between
the OLM12M optical link module and the DTE is longer than 5 meters or if the OLM12M is
the start or end of an RS 485 bus segment (default setting: terminating resistor
combination deactivated).
Connect the optical LAN cables
Assemble the optical link modules
Connect the electrical RS 485 LAN cables
Connect the power supply and the signaling contact
Figure 9 shows the default settings on the DIL switch and the location of the terminal blocks.
